Ballytour
The vision of Ballytour is to conduct, during the main tourist season, a daily historical walking tour of Ballyshannon. A number of Character/Actors will be posted at historical locations throughout the route and will deliver monologues telling historical tales associated with particular historical figures from Ballyshannon's past.
In late 2002 Erne Enterprise carried out preliminary research into establishing a walking tour of the town of Ballyshannon that would make full use of its history and streetscape. As the project evolved it came under the direction of the Erne Social & Business Development Group. This innovative project aimed at providing another activity for visitors to Ballyshannon during the main tourist season became known as Ballytour.
In order to make Ballytour a success, a training programme has been devised and this will take the form of a series of workshops. The following topics are offered to interested participants:
Historical research of local historical characters and scriptwriting
Period costume research design and making
Character Acting
Ballytour greatly acknowledges the support of D.L.D.C. which through the Leader+ programme will provide funding for the development of the project.
